Looking for a WinCC Unified alternative
We put numbers and sources against Siemens SIMATIC WinCC Unified. On some plants the right answer is WinCC — those cases are listed on this same page.
The short answer
WinCC Unified is a strong product on a Siemens-heavy plant. It lives inside the same TIA Portal project, it serves an HTML5 runtime, and its name appears directly in tender specifications. We are not trying to talk any of that down.
Three things separate us. First, the licence model: WinCC Unified counts PowerTags, we do not count anything. Second, the engineering environment: WinCC projects are built in TIA Portal on a Windows desktop; ours are built in a browser, with nothing installed on the engineering station. Third, price transparency: Siemens does not publish a list price, we do.
What we do not have is equally clear: brand history and a comparable installed base. We have now measured and published our own scale figures, but decades of plants in production are something a test report does not replace. Cost comparison
There is no single total for WinCC in this table, because Siemens publishes no list price and the only verifiable figure we hold is a retail runtime price. We have not filled the blanks with guesses.

The ~EUR 22,474 and ~EUR 842 figures come from the RS Online retail listing and exclude VAT; the band is very wide by edition and tag count, and any point between those two ends is possible. Our own figure is the midpoint of the Plant package on the pricing page. Engineering labour, hardware and commissioning are excluded on both sides.
When we would recommend WinCC Unified
This block is here so we do not enter the wrong project, not to lose the sale. If one of the three cases below describes you, WinCC is the better conversation.
The floor is entirely Siemens
If the PLC estate is S7 end to end and new investment stays with Siemens, no third-party driver fully reproduces the fit WinCC Unified has with that hardware. We do ship an S7 driver, but it has not been verified against real hardware.
The team lives in the TIA ecosystem
If your engineers keep the PLC and HMI project in one TIA Portal project, the tag mapping overhead of two separate tools can eat the licence saving. Staying in one project is a real engineering gain, not a preference.
The specification names WinCC
If the tender names the brand and you have no time for an equivalence submission, follow the specification. If you do want to open the equivalence route, our compliance dossier and protocol matrix are written to be attached to such a submission.
Frequently asked
Can I migrate my WinCC Unified project to Bella SCADA?
We have no automatic converter. Tag lists and alarm definitions can be moved through CSV/JSON; screens are redrawn. Plan it as its own line item — we do not sell it as a one-click migration.
Do you work with Siemens S7 PLCs?
We ship an S7 driver and it is complete in code. However none of our field protocol drivers has been verified against real hardware — the status of each is listed on the protocols page. If S7 is in scope we plan a verification round with you before commissioning.
Why is counting PowerTags a problem?
The problem is budgetary rather than technical: the licence bill grows with the project, so expanding a line stops being an engineering decision and becomes a purchasing one. We do not charge by tag or client, so growing the plant does not open a licence negotiation.
Why do you not state a full WinCC price?
Siemens publishes no list price. The only verifiable figures we hold are retail PC Runtime prices (~EUR 22,474 for the max edition, ~EUR 842 for the Asia edition; RS Online, excl. VAT). Rather than guess at the band in between, we prefer to say it is not published.
What does browser-based engineering actually change?
Installation and version matching on the engineering station disappear, and you can edit a screen from a laptop on the floor. In exchange you give up some desktop tooling habits. We do keep per-screen revisions; a full dev → test → production deployment flow does not exist yet.
