An honest comparison for buyers evaluating Ignition

Short version

Ignition is the de facto standard for mid-to-large plants and multi-site enterprise OT. A realistic single-server entry configuration is the Platform at USD 1,200 plus the Perspective module at USD 11,225 — USD 12,425 — with annual maintenance on top at 16-24%. The Bella SCADA Plant package covers the same job at ~USD 5,700 and does not bill the historian or alarm management as separate modules.

Price is not the whole story. We put the entire engineering workflow in the browser, quote in Turkish lira, support in Turkish and have a route to the domestic-product price advantage in Turkish public tenders. Ignition has free Inductive University training, by far the largest system integrator network, Perspective offline mode and, since 8.3, project version control. We have none of those.

Every Ignition figure on this page comes from Inductive Automation's published price list and each table carries the source link. Where we could not verify a capability from that list, we left the row out.

Five things Ignition has and we do not

We would rather you read these here than discover them in a sales meeting. If one of them is your deciding criterion, Ignition may well be the right product.

Three-year total cost — 1,500 tags, single server

Licence plus three years of maintenance. Engineering, hardware and commissioning are excluded because they are comparable on both sides.

The like-for-like row is the last one: the historian and alarm management are inside our Plant package and are separate modules in Ignition. On the other hand our Critical Plant package lands in almost the same band as Ignition's base configuration — on a project that needs redundancy, an OPC UA server and a signature policy the price gap largely closes, and we are not hiding that. Ignition is also cheaper at the edge: Edge IIoT is USD 945 against USD 1,200 – 1,600 for our Machine / Edge package; what the difference buys is unlimited concurrent clients. Figures exclude VAT and lira equivalents move with the exchange rate.

When we would recommend Ignition instead

When you are standardising OT across many sites. If the plan is one platform across fifteen plants, governed centrally, with each site free to pick its own integrator and the product still standing in ten years, Ignition's ecosystem carries that more safely than we can. We have not yet published scale test results, and in a programme like that this is a real gap.

When your in-house team is expected to train itself. Inductive University is free and turns an automation engineer into a competent user without vendor dependency. If building internal capability without a training budget is central to your decision, they are clearly ahead.

When offline field work is non-negotiable. If technicians must fill forms on a tablet outside network coverage and sync when the connection returns, Perspective's offline mode does that and we cannot. On our side mobile means a responsive view of the HMI runtime.

If none of those three describe you — one or a few plants, engineering in the browser, a lira budget, Turkish-language support, public tenders in scope — we would expect you to read the comparison in our favour.
